The Future of Quaker Haven
What comes to mind when you think of Quaker Haven? Is it a place...a ministry...a flood of memories...or is it your faith community? Quaker Haven may not be a “church,” but it does build and reinforce the Body of Christ. It is a place where ministry occurs, resulting in a faith community knit together by memories and shared experiences. It is exciting to dream of the ways camp will impact lives over the next 20-50 years!
Quaker Haven relies on your help financially to provide quality facilities, staff, and programs while improving our ability to serve more youth and families year-round. Both the near and long term future of Quaker Haven depends on your generosity and partnership.
2021 produced a 15% growth in the use of camp in all aspects: Families, churches, youth campers, and schools. The size of many of our youth camps has outgrown our cabins. In 2022, we added a youth camp week to accommodate growth and give campers more options of when to attend. We are still growing! Since we know youth camp plays a vital role in faith formation and emotional wellbeing—we never want to turn a young person away.
In the past 25 years, we've added facilities such as the Activity Center, maintenance facilities, and staff housing, as well as upgraded existing buildings to better serve our guests. We now recognize an imbalance where we don't have the lodging capacity to match our activity space.
This is why the top priority of the QHC Master Plan is to build two new duplex cabins by 2025. These additions would increase our bed count by 48. Not only would 48 more beds allow QHC to serve more youth during the summer, the climate controlled cabins would also bring in revenue for camp all year-round.
Throughout our lives, most of us strive to make a difference, providing gifts to people and causes we value. Are you concerned you are paying too much in taxes this year? Are you 70 1/2 years or older and have an IRA?
As a partner of Quaker Haven Camp, we want to make you aware of an opportunity to support QHC and make a tax-free contribution directly from your IRA. Many of our donors give from their monthly income or savings accounts. There may be a better way to give. After 70 1⁄2, you can give all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) directly from your IRA to QHC and pay no taxes on that distribution. Take a look at the example below to see how your gift benefits you as well as QHC.
